Frequently asked questions

Artwork Information

+ How is your artwork made?

I had a traditional apprenticeship at Clague Architects in the UK, where I spent 8 hours a day for 3 years on a drawing board learning how to wield the tools of the trade! Rather than trade my pens in for good and follow everyone else into CAD and BIM, I decided to add digital drawing to my skillset. The majority of my illustrations these days are completely digital, drawn by hand onto a Wacom Cintiq or Apple iPad. I do still keep physical sketchbooks for my own pleasure, and gladly take traditional ‘analogue’ commissions if a patron prefers!

+ Can I buy an original?

I do occasionally list traditional analogue originals for sale, but If an illustration has been produced digitally, unfortunately there isn’t an ‘original’ that you can purchase. But I do offer ‘hand finishing’ on some of my limited edition prints to make them extra special - get in touch if there’s anything you’d like to discuss!

+ Do you sell your digital artwork as NFTs?

I haven’t yet made any of my digital illustrations into NFTs, but I’m keen to explore this - get in touch if you have a special request!

+ How are your prints made?

All of my printed products, both Limited Editions and poster prints, are made for me by one of the leading print labs in the world. They were selected based on their print quality, value for money, and environmental credentials. You can read more below.

They work from high resolution digital original files and print my artwork onto a variety of media using their professional artist-grade 11-colour Giclee printers. They then undergo a tiered quality assurance process before being dispatched in rigid backed envelopes or rolled poster tubes.

+ How are your prints environmentally responsible?

The majority of my artwork is produced entirely digitally, which means a significant ‘at source’ reduction in use of raw materials. Where I do use physical materials I make sure that they are responsibly sourced, manufactured and recycled where possible. I’m also in the process of switching my studio over to run on fully renewable energy sources.

I also selected my print lab partner based on their class-leading sustainability credentials. They use the latest ‘neo pigment’ water-based inks, which are 100% non-hazardous, toxin-free and vegan-friendly. They also meet the strictest industry standards defined by Global Organic Textiles (GTOTS-3V), Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.

The wood and pulp is sourced from sustainably managed forests, which means that they are carefully maintained to ensure a balance of maintaining wildlife habitats and ecosystems, supporting local industries and livelihoods, and also wider environmental functions like carbon storage and flood risk mitigation.

By minimising the amount of stock that I hold at my studio and printing ‘on demand’, I’m able to rely on a dispersed international network of labs. This means that, rather than needing to ship orders internationally, most of my prints can be printed in the same region as the final customer and shipped locally. This makes a significant dent in reducing the overall carbon footprint of my studio.

As well as meeting the strictest environmental standards, my print lab partner also work to support Fair Trade and ethical procurement at every stage of their infrastructure.

+ What’s the difference between a Limited Edition print and a poster print?

Both types of print are made from high quality digital files created by me, and in the same print lab, using the same printing equipment and processes.

Poster prints are usually printed on a traditional consumer ‘poster’ paper, ie. Matte white paper at around 180gsm weight. They are sent directly from the print lab to you to help keep costs down.

Limited Edition prints are made on a much heavier artist-grade textured paper (around 300gsm), which is usually from a named manufacturer like Hahnemuhle. In addition, Limited Edition prints must pass through my own additional level of quality assurance checks, which means that I insist on them being sent to my studio first. Once I’ve received a Limited Edition print I personally inspect every aspect of it, including fidelity of the linework, consistency of colour, and overall finish. On the rare occasion that the print lab haven’t met the additional quality standards I expect for my Limited Editions, I will ask them to fix any issues and reprint. Once I’m happy, the print then receives my signature and its edition number, for final dispatch from my studio to you.

+ What sizes are available?

Prints are available in a variety of ISO A- paper sizes, from A5 up to A0. Poster prints are available at all sizes all of the time, but Limited Editions are only available at certain sizes and in small numbers. There is also a variety of stationery available, like greeting card packs, postcards, and calendars. Please check the individual listings for more details.

+ Do you provide frames?

At additional cost, all Limited Edition prints can be provided in frames. When supplied in frames, the prints are mounted and fitted in the print lab and then dispatched to my studio for sign-off and signature. Unfortunately, due to the cost involved, I don’t provide poster prints framed from the studio.

+ Can I have a custom illustration?

Of course you can! Please visit the Commissions page for more details, or get in touch directly.

Sales information

+ Do you offer discounts?

I always do my best to negotiate with my suppliers and keep costs as low as practical, so I’m usually operating on a fairly narrow margin. However, from time to time, I do run promotions and sales - sign up here to get notified!

+ What percentage of each sale goes to charity?

I build in donations as part of my fixed overheads; a percentage of every single sale goes to a relevant charitable cause.

The specific charity and percentage varies depending on the drawing itself, as I like to try and support something linked to the illustration, eg. Pub fundraising campaigns, local children’s art or music charities, or pet and wildlife trusts. Where a print has a specific cause, you will find that on the listing.

+ Do you provide bulk / wholesale rates?

I offer discounted rates on multiple purchases of stationery items; these prices are shown on the individual listings. If you’re interested in purchasing over 10 prints, of any subject or at any size, please get in touch and we can discuss.

If you are interested in reselling my illustrations or packaging them as part of your own offers, I would be happy to have a chat about how we can work together.

+ What payment methods do you accept?

I accept debit/credit card payments via Stripe, and Apple Pay. Stripe also supports Afterpay/Clearpay which allows you to pay for your order in 4 interest-free instalments. Learn more about Clearpay here.

+ Do you accept returns / refunds?

I don’t accept returns, but will replace / refund damaged orders. If your print is damaged or defective, please get in touch immediately with clear photos showing the issue. I will then work with you to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Delivery information

+ How much is delivery?

Standard delivery within the UK is free, and will normally arrive within 48 hours of being dispatched from the print lab. You can also request Tracked Express delivery at checkout (cost subject to print sizes and delivery address), which will dispatch overnight from the print lab.

+ What service do you use?

All standard orders within the UK are dispatched via Royal Mail. If you request the Tracked Express service you will receive confirmation of the most appropriate delivery partner at checkout.

+ Do you do express delivery?

Yes. Tracked Express delivery is available at additional cost, and can be selected at checkout.

+ Do you do international delivery?

Yes. My chosen print lab network have fulfilment centres around the world; standard prints and stationery can usually be dispatched locally for quicker shipping and to help reduce carbon emissions. Limited Edition prints, as they need to come to the studio first for sign-off and signature, will all need to be dispatched from the UK at additional cost.

+ Where is my order?

Standard Delivery is tracked on dispatch and on delivery; you will receive a tracking number that will confirm when it left the print lab, and then confirmation of any attempted delivery. Due to the lower cost of this option, packages aren’t tracked ‘on the way’, so you won’t get notified when it arrives at your local depot etc.

I usually ask that you give 3 days after the suggested delivery date to allow for unforeseen delays in the delivery network. If you haven’t received your print by then, please get in touch and we will try to find it! If a print is lost or damaged in transit we can usually get the print lab to replace it for you directly.

Some international delivery destinations are, unfortunately, still seeing significant delays due to travel, customs and freedom restrictions. I’m unable to factor these local delays in to my shipping estimates, so please bear those in mind when you order.

+ What should I do if my print is damaged or defective?

All prints are dispatched in appropriate hard-backed envelopes and artist’s tubes directly from the print lab. This means that I can keep processing and shipping costs lower as I don’t need to personally review every print or send them direct from my studio in the UK. However, this does mean that sometimes a print gets to a customer and falls a little short of quality standards, either through a printing error or damage in transit.

If your print has arrived and you aren’t entirely happy with the quality of it, please get in touch immediately and we will try to get it resolved. I will usually ask for photos of the issue so that we can determine if the print lab need to recalibrate their equipment before they reprint, or if different packaging/tracking/shipping is required when we resend it to you.
